My name is Giulio Cangiano, and I’m an Italian airline pilot living between Sicily and Capri Island.
My Journey
I was born in the 1987 and raised on the stunning island of Capri, where my passion for technology and aviation began. I first discovered the world of computers, science, and flight simulators at a very young age. Even today, I enjoy playing flight simulation games and connecting with aviation enthusiasts worldwide.
At the age of 13, I was "bitten by the aviation bug." Determined to turn my dream into reality, I took on various jobs to save money, constantly searching for ways to fund my pilot training. Despite my relentless determination, financial constraints made it difficult to take the big leap.
To stay on track, I honed my skills in information technology, a path that required years of dedication. As a result, I became an average student during my Business Technician Diploma Course, as my focus was split between academics and working towards my aviation dream.
By the time I turned 20, reality hit hard—I started considering letting go of my dream for a "normal life." I met my wife, built a strong relationship, and explored different careers. Today, we are a happy family with two wonderful children.
At 27 years old, I made a life-changing decision—I could no longer go to bed dreaming of being a pilot without truly trying. I spoke with my family, took on long working hours, and my wife’s support made all the difference. She realized that "a happy husband is the best husband," and together, we made the sacrifice.
That period changed my life forever.
Turning Dreams into Reality
After years of hard work, sacrifices, and perseverance, I finally began my flight training at Tecnam Flight Academy, completing it in 2021. I still remember the sleepless nights of 2015, juggling a full-time job from 08:00 until late at night, coming home to find my children already asleep, and pushing myself to stay awake to study for my PPL and ATPL.
In 2017, my breakthrough came—I was finally able to fully dedicate myself to my aviation career. That was the moment I realized that with determination and goals, anything is possible.
By the end of 2019, I was completely exhausted, managing family, work, and intense studying. The ATPL course was incredibly challenging, but I had finally earned my CPL, IR, MCC, UPSET Training, and my Frozen ATPL Theory. I was ready to step into the aviation market.
Then, COVID-19 struck—a dark period filled with uncertainty. But as always, I never gave up.
When the world started recovering from the pandemic, I applied to several airline companies. A few months later, at 34 years old, I achieved my lifelong dream—I became a commercial pilot for Europe’s largest airline.
Throughout my flight training, I demonstrated high standards of CRM (Crew Resource Management) and NOTECHs (Non-Technical Skills), along with strong manual flying skills. I learned how to perform under pressure, handle non-normal conditions, and communicate effectively in high-stakes environments.
I can work for long hours with unwavering dedication, discipline, and passion—qualities that have shaped my entire career.
Final Thoughts
Looking back, I can confidently say that I am the happiest man in the world—because I never stopped believing in myself.
